Mission: pest controllers results

Explanation   Results

Results will start to come in from
19 July 2011.

The results shown on the map will be simplified slightly and averaged for each grid square, so that the map is easier to display and view.  All the data, not just the averages, will be used in the analysis and for the scientific research resulting from this mission.

Our expectation was that the numbers of pest controllers (shown in black) would be highest close to London (where the alien moth has been longest) and lowest further away from London (where the moth has only just arrived). The exciting thing about science is that sometimes your thoughts are correct and sometimes they are wrong.  Do you think that our expectation was correct?

Update 21 July 2011: Where are all the moths and pest controllers? The Conker Tree Science team are also taking part in this mission. Last year we found that about half of the leaf mines produced a moth, but we are finding fewer moths than expected. We are also finding only a very low number of pest controllers. Is this just in our area? Maybe it was it the result of the hot,dry spring? There is still lots to discover.
