Mission: alien moth survey results

Explanation   Results

White pins show where the alien moth was recorded as absent. Other colours indicate where the moth was recorded as present: yellow to orange to red pins indicate increasing amounts of damage to conker trees. Grey pins indicate that the moth was present, but the amount of damage was not recorded.

The results shown on the map are simplified by showing the maximum damage score recorded for each 20km square in Britain, so that the map is easier to display and view.  All the data, not just the averages, will be used in the scientific research resulting from this mission.

We expected that the levels of damage would be lowest where the moth has only just arrived (the northern and western edge of its distribution), and highest where the moth has been for the longest (near London). Do you think our data show this?

Poll

Our expectation was that the damage cause to horse-chestnut trees would be greatest close to London. Do you think that our expectation was correct?
